I understand that it can be frustrating during this lockdown period and you may be searching for ways to keep yourself and your family entertained during this time.

I’m really excited to announce that I will be presenting a FREE online version of my Understanding Music course over the next few weeks!  Yes, it really is completely free of charge (the normal cost to attend one of these courses is approx. R500pp).

This is a great way to expand your knowledge and learn something that can really help you with your dancing.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who would like to get a better understanding of music and how it applies to the various dances we teach at The Beat.

The course is suitable for almost all ages from 12 and up

How long is the course?

In total, the course will consist of about 6-8 hours of material, split up over smaller modules over a period of a few weeks.

What will be covered?

The goals for this course are simple:

  • To understand the basic elements of music
  • Be able to identify these different “layers” in music
  • Understand different rhythms
  • To be able to use this knowledge and apply it to the various dances that are taught at The Beat

We will cover a variety of topics from the basics of music, a brief history of western music, some more advanced concepts and, finally, how this all applies to our various dances and how to identify which music fits with which dance.

Many different visual aids are used to explain the various concepts, with the main focus being on being able to really listen to and understand what you are hearing.

How will I get the course videos and other information?

All the videos will be available to watch on YouTube; however, they will not be publicly viewable.

When you sign up you will receive a welcome email with links to the YouTube channel and other material you will need.

Every time a new video is available, we’ll send an email to everyone who’s signed up with a direct link.
